The main language used in Cochin is Malayalam which is considered as their mother tongue and is spoken by the people of the city.
Chinese Fishing Nets :- The Fort Kochi is the only place where the unique Chinese Fishing Nets are seen in the world. Traders from the court of Chinese emperor Kubla Khan brought these to Kochi. These nets are also famous for Cochin carnival that is conducted on New Year’s Eve.
Mattancherry Dutch Place :- Mattancherry is a tourist spot in Kochi where you can feel the Portuguese influence particularly with the presence of Dutch Palace. The palace has a fine collection of mural paintings depicting scenes from the Hindu epics Mahabharatha and Ramayana. The palace was built by Portuguese in 1557 but is designed in typical Kerala style mansion. The Jew Town, Mattancherry Palace Museum is some of the famous places to visit in Cochin, Mattancherry.
Marine Drive :- It is the coastal pathway that lines the backwater and is a famous spot for tourist attraction in Cochin. The Private Boat operators offer hourly cruises starting from Marine Drive that goes through Cochin Harbour, Bolgatty and other places around.
Fort Kochi Beach :- Extremely admired by tourists and local people, the Fort Kochi beach is the best place to visit in Cochin that offers the tourist handful of activities like sightseeing, boat cruise, beach walk, fishing, sun bath, sand castles building, dolphin sighting, and swimming. Located at the edge of the western coast of India, it owns a serene beach that allures the visitors.
The best time to visit Cochin is during winters that are from the month of October to March as the weather is pleasant and cool. You can enjoy water sports during this time and a perfect time to spend your Christmas holidays.
By Air : Cochin has its own international airport which is about 29 kms from the city. Almost all of the major Indian cities have flight connectivity to Cochin. It is accessible from major international cities like New York, Paris, London, Singapore, Sydney, Dubai etc.
By Road :Cochin is well connected to major cities through bus and regular buses run to and from Cochin. State as well as private buses are also available from the city.
By Railways :The city has two railway stations namely Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town. It is well connected to other major cities of Cochin and also runs from Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai etc.
Cochin has tropical monsoon climate and experiences humidity throughout the year. The summer season starts from March and ends till June. The climate during this season remains too hot and humid. The monsoon season starts from July to September and experience heavy rainfall. The climate during this season remains pleasant. . October to February is ideally the winter season where the temperature dips down between 17 degrees to 30 degrees. The climate during this season is pleasant in the morning and cold at night.
