Kanchanjunga-: Kanchenjunga is one of the most stunning mountains in the world and is standing as the third highest peak in the world. Apart from trekking along the path of Kanchenjunga, one can even visit the Kanchenjunga National Park. This National Park and biosphere reserve spread over an area of 850 sq km, it is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna with 550 species of birds alone.
Some of the important animals found are the snow leopard, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Tibetan wild ass, wild dog, Himalayan blue sheep, civet, serow, sloth bear, goral, red panda, takin, and snakes.
MG Road-: Not only the mountains and waterfalls, Gangtok even has a perfect spot for happening lifestyle. The MG road is the center for various shops, restaurants, and hotels. The area is widely regarded to be the best shopping destination for tourists in Gangtok. The entire area is free of smoke, litter, and vehicular traffic with boards everywhere which say "Welcome to M.G. Marg, Spit, and Litter Free Zone". Being a pedestrian-only zone, no vehicles are allowed.
Gangtok can be visited all throughout the year for the pleasant weather and charismatic beauty. But when we talk about the best time to visit Gangtok, it is between October and mid-December. Even March and May are best seasons for Gangtok tour as the lush Rhododendron flowers in bloom make the place worth visiting.
Gangtok in Summer-: Summer season, from March to May is a good time to visit Gangtok. The weather is relatively warmer and pleasant. One may find the place too crowded during May June because of the summer vacations. If planning for the summer tour, Gangtok is best to visit between March and May.

By Air : The town does not have its own airport so no direct flights are available. The nearest airport from Gangtok is in Bagdogra situated in West Bengal which is 124 km away from Gangtok. This airport is connected with the major cities of the country. The cabs are available from the airport to get to around the city.
By Road/Bus : Sikkim state transport buses are available between Gangtok and Siliguri. One can commute via the private buses that are available from Siliguri and Bagdogra. Cabs are also available to commute in local and outside the city. The route through National Highway 31A is the most convenient road for the travel to Gangtok via cab.
By Railways : Direct trains to Gangtok are not available and the nearest railway station is situated in New Jalpaiguri which is 117 km away from Gangtok. The New Jalpaiguri railway station is linked with both major cities like Kolkata and New Delhi as well as other minor cities. The cabs are available from the station to get to around the city.
Lal Market and MG Marg are very famous shopping destinations in Gangtok. There is also Big Bazaar where you can bargain for a good price.
Summers can be expensive for Gangtok tour but this is the best time to visit. June-July is considered off season and can be cheaper for a budget tour. If you have chosen this time to visit Gangtok, be prepared for rains and muddy roads.
The cities are connected via local taxis that are the major mean of commuting. The private taxi in the city is expensive.
You require a permit to visit Nathula Pass, which is generally arranged by the agent. It has to be applied a day in advance.
Go for an experienced driver and hire a heavy and sturdy vehicle for your trip to Tsongmo/Changu Lake, Nathu-la, Pelling and Yuksom.
Pack well with heavy woolens for winter tour as the temperature decreases to 2 to 3 degrees.
