Upon your arrival in Delhi, you will be met by a member of our team and chauffeured to the Lodhi for a two night stay. Formerly the Aman New Delhi, this hotel is arguably the finest in the city. It’s located in a lively but very green area of Delhi, close to the city’s Lodhi Gardens, from which it takes its name. The ambience is hushed and the decor is slick, drawing in a cool crowd of Delhi socialites. Each of the 40 rooms are the size of a small apartment and come with a very generous sitting area, workstation, dressing room and spacious bathrooms; best of all, they each have their own private plunge pool.
Explore both Old and New Delhi on a guided tour. Sights to soak up include the Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat, India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb, Qutab Minar and the Sikh Temple. You’ll also explore the bustling narrow streets of Chandni Chowk bazaar on a traditional rickshaw ride – this is sure to awaken all the senses!
This morning you’ll board a flight to Udaipur, for a two night stay at DeviGarh. A charming 18th century fort which has recently been converted into a stylish, minimalist boutique hotel, retaining many of its original features. There are countless terraces, balconies and turrets to tuck yourself away on with a private candle-lit dinner.
Today you’ll explore the highlights of Udaipur’s most romantic city, including the vast City Palace, Jagdish Temple, Saheliyon-ki-Bari and a boat-ride on shimmering Lake Pichola. A walking tour in the Old City will guide you through crooked narrow lanes selling a variety of interesting local handicrafts.
Today you’ll head deep into the Aravali Mountains for a two night stay in the slow and sleepy village of Narlai, stopping in Ranakpur on the way to visit one of India’s most elaborately carved temples. Once a hunting lodge of the Jodhpur royal family, Rawla Narlai retains the dark wood carved doors, jaalis (stone lattice screens) and sepia portraits of ancestors. Whilst staying at Rawla Narlai, guests can enjoy a special dinner at an ancient stepwell near the village which is lit by hundreds of tiny oil lamps. Whilst you eat, local farmers from the village in their white dhotis and fuchsia turbans perform traditional dances.
The day is at your leisure to relax in your peaceful surroundings. You may like to explore the local area (your chauffeur is always on hand), enjoy the pool, or experience one of the hotel’s many activities on offer.
Continue to Jodhpur – the Blue City. For the next two nights you’ll stay at Raas – this glorious little hotel lies at the foot of the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, in the heart of Jodhpur’s Walled City. It is the only luxury hotel to be based in the old town and the views of the fort looming above are quite spectacular. Strolling away from the excitement and hustle and bustle of the old town and walking under Raas’ imposing gateway is like entering a blissfully peaceful, hidden oasis. The hotel comprises of four beautiful old and restored red sandstone buildings juxtaposed with slick, modern structures.
A guided tour of Jodhpur today takes in Jaswant Thada, Mehrangarh Fort and a walk through the labyrinthine lanes of the old city. Optionally, you may like to visit the nearby village of the Bishnoi tribe, by private Jeep, to experience their unique way of life.
Today you’ll proceed to Nagaur for two nights at the charming Ranvas hotel. This property is located within the Ahichhatragarh Fort, in the former women’s quarter. It was once a pleasure palace of the Mahraja of Jodhpur, and has been lovingly restored to its present state. As all the rooms are within the fort itself, one has the feeling of being part of the history and pomp of yesteryear. This area is less frequented by tourists as compared to other areas of Rajasthan, so a night or two here is the perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries. There is also a Sufi music festival that takes place here every February.
This morning, you’ll be accompanied by a guide for a tour of Ahichhatragarh Fort. Take it easy this afternoon and enjoy the hotel.
Head to the golden city of Jaisalmer for a two night stay at Killa Bhawan. Set high within the watchtowers of Jaisalmer fort, the charming Killa Bhawan offers beautiful views of the royal palace and town down below. Each of the five rooms are furnished in a traditional manner, with accents of bright colour, reflecting the local area perfectly. The delightful roof terrace is a highlight and offers sensational views. Being located within Jaisalmer Fort itself, Killa Bhawan is ideally located for those who’d like to embrace the rich culture of the city, people-watch, and check out the local restaurants.
After a leisurely breakfast in Udaipur, will be dropped at the airport by your chauffeur, in time for your domestic departure to Kochi. Here, you will say goodbye to your north India chauffeur, as his services come to an end. Upon arriving in Cochin, you will be met at the airport by your south India chauffeur, and proceed to the hotel for the night.
Continue to Dechu in the heart of the Thar Desert. Spend the night in a luxury tent at Samsara, camping under the stars. At sunset, enjoy a camel trek on the dunes. At Samsara, evenings are a lively affair with colourful folk dance performances around a blazing bonfire.
Today you’ll head to Nimaj for a two night stay at Chhatra Sagar. This peaceful camp overlooks a reservoir and is the ideal place to relax, bird-watch, and go for walks. The comfortable tents are tastefully designed and feature a private sit-out overlooking the water. The charming and friendly owners will entertain you as you sit around the campfire, listning to folklore whilst traditional Rajasthani dishes are served.
The day is at your leisure to explore the local area and enjoy your beautiful surroundings.
The last stop on your journey through Rajasthan will be Jaipur – the Pink City. Here, you’ll spend two nights at Samode Haveli, a quirky heritage hotel tucked away in a corner of Jaipur, originally built for a prime minister of the royal court in the mid-19th century.
Climb Amber Fort by elephant this morning, to explore the splendid palaces within. Continue to the City Palace, Jantar Mantar observatory and Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds). End the day with a walk through the colourful bazaars to hunt for interesting souvenirs and local handicrafts.
Today you’ll return to Delhi airport in time for your onwards flight. Depending on the time of your departure, an additional last night’s stay in Delhi may be required (the perfect excuse to enjoy a return to the Lodhi…!)
